    Default 2001 Silverado 2500HD Diesel/Allison Trans issue

So I traded in my truck since it has 200,000 and the trans began to slip pretty bad. Even before that this past summer the trans has trouble while towing my 5,000lbs travel trailer...

1 week later the deal fell through. Back to a slipping transmission...

Changed the internal and external filter at the same time as I changed all of the fluid (Hoot Flush).
NOTE: (the fluid being removed was 8,000 mile old AMSOIL with WIX filters and it smelled burnt, looked fairly clean though)

    On going trans issues:

    • Seems to shift into each gear very soft
    • Seems to not really want to downshift while slowing down for stop lights
    • Occasionally upon normal/light takeoff from a light it seems not to be in 1st gear (maybe..)
    • When I was pulling our trailer this past summer pulling up a pass, once on top and level would not shift out of passing gear to lower RPMs, I had to let off the throttle completely and allow the truck to slow down about 15 to 20mph in order to allow the trans to get into the correct gear.

I took my truck to a trans shop, they could not diagnose the trans because they said I have an electrical issue throwing a U1000 code (which kept them from being able to connect to my transmission for diagnostics).

I need some advice folks - anything will help.

e-mail direct if you want, I have an iphone so I will get it on the go and will reply ASAP.

Hey Jeremy, sorry the deal on the Ford fell through and your back to the beginning again. However, I have to be honest, with your tranny being a 5-speed Allison, most of what I am hearing is almost normal for it. Most of the Dmax's I have driven or riden in have the same issue where say you are slowing to a stop but do not stop and get back into the gas and it feels like it slipps before the gear grabs and takes off. The same is true for the not releasing passing gear at the top of a hill under a load, I had that one a lot with my dually. Personally, since you already changed the fluids and filters, I would take it to a dealer and have them do a fresh "Reflash" of the TCM. For some reason, and I have not been able to find anyone who can explain why this happens, but the programming in the TCM can be thrown off so to speak, causing a few little quirky issues that make you think it is slipping. That would be my next step just to rule it our before going further.

Once that is done then we can probably narrow it down more if the issues persist. Also, I'm not saying there is nothing wrong with your tranny, I'm just trying to stay positive and hope that the simple things fix it.

I called both GM dealers in town and they are weeks out for trans appointments... I cannot wait weeks!!

I am dropping the old truck off at a trans shop tomorrow morning and hoping for the best news by Friday afternoon. I have money to rebild if needed, but 200,000 miles puts wear on a truck. Had I owned this truck since she was a teenager (50,000) it would have held up better and the age wouldnt be showing.

So I just wanted you to have an update. The guy at the trans shop did assure me they can fix any issue my trans has and he sounded reassuring... Fingers crossed!!

Are they not able to flash your ECM/TCM either? That is crazy busy. It only takes a few minutes..

All fixed folks! Apparently I had a bad Safety Neutral switch and shifting solenoid. I cringed because I thought the worst, but hey - better safe than sorry right?

Thanks for the advice everyone - maybe I should just stay calm and cool. FAT CHANCE OF THAT IN THIS LIFE!!!!! hahaha

BDD, you sent me a friend request on SMS... I accepted but cannot tell whether it went through or not. Is there a way to tell? Lol, you would think I could tell, besides Chris and Willie you are the only other guy I correspond to. hahahaha

    Thumbs up Friend Requests

Good morning Jeremy, The easiest way to double check friend requests is to go to the forum main page via the menu at the top. Once there you will see links to "New Posts, Private Messages, etc" Under the "Community" link there is a link for "Friends & Contacts". Click that link and you can see all friendship requests. Your acceptance of my friend request went through just fine.... Thanks for accepting me...
