Corona, Ca. (January 28, 2010)--TORC Series Race Operations, USAC Officials, engine builders and race truck drivers converged to finalize and move forward on the new PRO Light V-8 engine rules package. Discussions also included PRO Light class growth, promotion and the passion for this class fueled by the financial support of Traxxas. Kevin Miller, President / CEO United States Auto Club spoke after the call; he noted that the move to a crate engine has brought the major auto manufacturers back into off-road racing. "The goal of bringing this new PRO Light package is to allow racing to be more affordable, I believe that the TORC V8 package will take racing in this class to the next level. As an added bonus, the new engine program will give teams support at the track by providing on site assistance with "re-build" stations." TORC Drivers had these comments regarding the new engine package: Casey Currie, PRO Light Driver- "This is what this class had needed for a long time. I'm excited for something new, I think this is what we need to elevated the class and motivate both new and existing drivers to step up to the plate and get into a PRO truck. I feel like it will take a year to get the bugs worked out- but once they are I think we will see a tremendous growth in the level of PRO Light competition." Randy Eller PRO Light Driver-"I think this move is good for the long term aspects of the sport and the PRO Light class. If it brings in new blood- it's always a good thing. I think drivers will save money in the long run." Marty Hart, PRO Light Driver- "I think it's a great idea- will we have some growing pains in the first year- but overall I think it will be a good thing once everyone switches to the V8 package." Ross Hoek, PRO 2WD- "I would have never considered a PRO Light with a 4 cylinder engine- and now I'm building one with a V-8. I would be doing it if it didn't feel like it gave us a good direction for the future. I believe this changes the viability and scope of the PRO Light class and I am excited to be a part of it." Manufacturers and engineers also chimed in with their thoughts:Mike Kasch, Roush/Yates Engines- "This new engine package will bring an affordable race package that will not only bring new talent to TORC, but also allow some of the veteran racers and more traditional racing families to return to short course off road racing. With the cost cuts that this new package offers, it allows more money for travel and other aspects of running a team. In the state of our nations economy, this is a great opportunity for all racers" Gary Stanton, Stanton Engines- "First of all- it is crucial to have all of the manufacturers involved in any form of motorsports to make it successful. With this new V8 class in particular, we hope to see Chevy, Ford, Toyota, and Dodge all make an effort to support this new class. From an engine builder's standpoint, we are offering a proven motor that has run the ASA series successfully, lasts a long time, and is very competitive and a great fit for the TORC PRO Light class. We hope the drivability and affordability is a great fit for all racers." FULL STORY
Colorado Springs, CO (January 28, 2010)--For 2010, Lovell Racing is headed in an exciting new high profile direction–The Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL. Brad Lovell will pilot an AMSOIL sponsored Pro-Light throughout the 2010 season in hopes of capturing a piece of the $200,000 purse. Brad comments, "I have watched off-road racing since I was a child and never realistically thought I would have a chance to compete. I'm thrilled and in awe that my dream is coming true." TORC carries a few similarities with the team's roots but is more akin to NASCAR in dirt with added turns and high flying jumps. Two wheel drive Pro-Lights can reach speeds over 100 mph and jump as far as 150'; all while holding position mere feet from other drivers. Starting on May 1, The TORC series will feature racing in Tucson Ariz., Charlotte N.C., Bark River Mich., and end on Labor Day at the legendary Crandon Wis. track. Races are scheduled to air on ABC and ESPN2 during the summer of 2010. Capitalizing off yet another dominating year in rock racing, Lovell Racing was only able to make this move with the steadfast support from AMSOIL. Race Manager Jeremy Meyer adds, "Brad and his team have shown they can be successful in so many different forms of racing over the past five years and we believe that stepping into short course racing will be more of the same. They bring a great program to TORC and short course racing and I can't wait to see the new Pro Light on the track in Arizona." BFGoodrich Tires, another long-term supporter, also has confidence in both Lovells' abilities to climb the ranks. Victor Angon of BFGoodrich Racing adds, "There is no doubt in my mind that Brad will catch on quick to short course racing. BFGoodrich Tires has stood behind the Lovell brothers because of their dedication and commitment to racing and with Brad moving on to a whole new level of competition we have complete confidence in Roger carrying on their winning ways in the rocks. Congratulations to the entire team." While Brad's focus on TORC will prevent full commitment in other series, Roger will race the entire King of the Hammers Grand Slam Series as well as XRRA. In the multi-discipline Grand Slam Series, Roger will take the wheel for his first ever desert race and rockcrawl. For these events, the brothers will switch traditional roles with Brad as navigator / spotter. Aside from TORC, Brad will enter select We-Rock rockcrawls, XRRA races, and CHCA hillclimbs. Lovell adds, “With the universal design of our current vehicles and entrance into short course, we should be doing just about every type of off-road racing out there. It's a huge challenge and very exciting, I can't wait." In just over a week, the newly minted AMSOIL off-road team starts their charge into 2010 at the King of the Hammers race on Feb 12th. This epic endurance race consists of 100 trucks and 135 miles of brutal rockcrawling trails. #232 Brad (finishing 5th in 2009) will be joined by Bill Kunz of Torchmate CNC Systems while #32 Roger (finishing 21st in 2009) will have desert veteran Greg Foutz as navigator. For those not watching the race in person, live coverage during the race will be available on Pirate4x4.com. FULL STORY
Corona, CA (January 22, 2010)--The Traxxas Pro Light class will be home for some of the hottest racing action in the 2010 Traxxas TORC Series. Choosing to sponsor the entire class rather than a single driver, Traxxas, The Fastest Name in Radio Control®, has joined forces with TORC to raise the season purse to over $200,000 paid out over 14 races. Racers will be competing for the largest cash purse the Pro Light class has ever seen. Top spot on the podium for each race pays $5000, $2,500 for 2nd, $1,500 for 3rd, and continues to pay on down to the 10th spot. There's also an additional $1000 Traxxas Maxx® Lap cash payout to the driver of the fastest lap. The large purse pays every weekend allowing for immediate financial support to assist racers on an ongoing basis throughout the season, not just at years end. The financial rewards are available for all racers whether they are running the entire season or just the races their travel schedule permits. Also new for 2010 is the limited and sealed V8 crate engine program that provides a low cost engine choice that can race equally alongside the current 4-cylinder power plants. TORC and USAC are working together closely through pre-season development and testing to assure absolute parity amongst the different brands and types of engines. The racing on the track is sure to be some of the best ever as racers flat foot it to the podium for their share of the giant $200,000 purse. Traxxas' Mike Jenkins stated, "With Traxxas sponsoring a whole class of racers rather than just one driver, racers will be able to take advantage of financial support that can be earned throughout the entire season. The 4-cylinder trucks will be able to compete right with the V-8s, so everyone is welcome to participate whether they're able to run one weekend or the entire season. This investment in the Traxxas Pro Light class is an investment in a very talented group of drivers and ultimately the future of our sport." FULL STORY

Greaves' Monster Energy/Toyota Motorsports Racing teammate Jeremy McGrath calls it "Frickin Huge" after Greaves touches down with WR Corona, CA (December 28, 2009)--What began as a relatively calm morning in the southern California foothills just outside San Diego literally became the stuff Guinness Book of World Records are made of when Monster Energy's Johnny Greaves came roaring down a dirt road at 105 mile per hour and launched his 3,800-pound, 800-horsepower TORC off-road PRO 2WD Toyota through the air over the length of an NFL football field. Landing quite peacefully some 301-feet later despite the overall violent nature of the jump. Greaves looped back around and was met by his Monster Energy/Toyota Motorsports team and off-road racing teammate McGrath. "He made it look good, made it look easy. But that jump was frickin' huge," said McGrath. With a spectrum of measuring and surveying equipment on hand, Greaves added more than 100 feet to the previous 2WD distance truck jumping record of 193-feet set last year. By Eric JohnsonOn a hot, arid, brilliantly sunny Saturday afternoon at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track, the organizers of the TORC Series finale - dubbed "The Final Showdown" - were having a hell of a time figuring out how to get water into the concrete-like Vegas adobe. Not having much luck, the crew workers soaked the track all day. Come race time later that evening, the track ended up so rough and gnarly - replete with huge ruts, braking bumps, whoops and pot holes - that it took on the appearance of a full-on AMA National Motocross Championship circuit. And that was fine by 25 year-old Casey Currie. A former professional motocross and Supermoto racer turned Pro Light truck driver, Currie – whose brother Brandon currently competes as a national caliber AMA Supermoto rider – made the best of his motocross experience, applying the many things he learned on two wheels to lead all 14 laps of the Pro Light main event in his #2 jet black and electric green Monster Energy-backed Nissan. A few minutes after the races, we slogged our way through the mud and tripped through the ruts to get a word with him. Casey, before I jump into this, you came from motocross. How did you end up in closed-course off-road truck racing?I grew up watching and wanting to race motorcycles. And then my dad's business was in the high-performance rear end business, so with being around NASCAR and other forms of racing, it all kind of worked out to get me here. Also, my mom didn't really want me racing motorcycles. With the off-road, when they used to come to Glenn Helen [Raceway] it was the coolest thing to watch because you'd get the motocross version with the trucks and they also brought in the cage, so it was a little safer. It definitely fit my description of what I wanted to do in life. You held P1 throughout the entire race tonight. Why did things go so well?We did some crazy stuff today. FULL STORY

Corona, CA (January 15, 2010)--The Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL announced today that it is changing the date for the race at USA Raceway in Tucson, AZ, originally scheduled for April 17-18, to May 1-2, 2010. The series is making the move so that it will not conflict with other off-road racing series. Other dates and tracks are being considered as we strive to complete our 2010 schedule as soon as possible. TORC co-owner, Mitch Covington made the following statement: "In the spirit of cooperation we have been taking great strides to co-exist with all other motorsports series and are striving to allow short course off road racers to maximize their race season and exposure for their sponsors. TORC wants off road drivers and fans to know we take their input seriously and have attempted to secure the best dates that work with the local promoter, fans and the racers." FULL STORY

Check it all out for yourself here. Click here to watch the video on YouTube. FULL STORY

Dealers, don't forget about posting in your sections! That is what it is all about, without putting information out there, no matter what it is, your business contact information does not get seen. This is an opportunity to increase your business exposure without paying for it! Make sure to post as much as possible!
February 03, 2010, 05:25:15 AM

Alright, the Ad Manager is up and running, although I am not sure I like the placement of the index ads being below the shout box, anyway, let me know what you think of those that are there. If you have a Lube Dealer site that is not represented in the ad rotation that you know of, please submit it to me with your choice of banner image. These banners can come from AMSOIL or you can have them made.

A few weeks back AMSOIL announced the title sponsorship of the 2010 Engine Masters Challenge in conjunction with Popular Hot Rodding Magazine. This event puts over 30 talented engine builders in one place to see who can build the most cost effective, efficient engine. After a series of dyno tests that measure torque, horsepower and performance the top engine builder is ultimately crowned 2010 AMSOIL Engine Master. With many contingency sponsors and $5,000 in cash and prizes going to the winner, the stakes are high. Like a Super Bowl ring, though, the real prize is the recognition it brings. If you or someone you know has a talent for engine building, it's not too late to apply to be a participant in this challenge. Applications are due no later than February 15th, so now is your chance to be part of this exciting event and show your stuff. Full rules, details and application can be found here on the Popular Hot Rodding website.

Category: Street Rod Road Tour
AMSOIL has once again signed on as title sponsor for the 2010 Street Rodder Road Tour presented by Street Rodder Magazine. It's an event that takes street rod enthusiasts around the country to various destinations in a series of tour legs. Each year a custom-built street rod leads the way. This year a ’27 Roadster Pickup built by Zane Cullen and crew at Cotati Speed Shop will have the honors, with Jerry Dixie leading the pack of impressive street rods in the Roadster. Each year the AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour inevitably captures the attention of every city it travels through, and has seen tremendous growth and success in the years since it began. Over the Christmas holidays AMSOIL received an invitation to visit the Santa Rosa facility where the '27 Roadster is being assembled. Though everything is under wraps till you see it first in Street Rodder magazine, Cullen and crew do awesome work, as these other photos here attest.
Along the way exclusive visits to street rod shops, manufacturing facilities and some amazing car collections fill in the miles on the road. And once more, the Road Tourians will visit the AMSOIL Center, this time in mid-August on their way to Bonneville.
If you or someone you know is a fellow street rod enthusiast, it’s definitely worth your while to try to make it on one of these tours. It’s the trip of a lifetime that won’t soon be forgotten…or as most who participate say, "a trip that won’t ever be forgotten."
The 2010 AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour schedule is as follows:
The Cruise to Ocean City Tour: May 15-23 Charlotte, NC to Cruisin’ Ocean City, MD
The Speed King Tour: May 28-June 6 MSRA Mid-America Nationals in Springfield, MO to NSRA East Coast Nationals in York, PA
The Vintage Air Tour: June 19-27 Vintage Air in San Antonio, TX to NSRA Rocky Mountain Nationals in Pueblo, CO
The Factory Five Racing Tour: July 11-18 Factory Five Racing in Wareham, MA to Syracuse Nationals in Syracuse, NY
The Intercity Lines Tour: July 30-August 8 Street Rodder Magazine in Orange County, CA to NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, KY
The Dynamat Tour: August 8-16 NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, KY to Bonneville Speed Week in Wendover, UT
The Canadian Classic Cars Tour: September 10-19 NSRA Nationals North in Kalamazoo, MI to NSRA Northeast Nationals in Burlington, VT
The Sherm’s Plating Tour: October 9-17 Sherm’s Plating in Sacramento, CA to the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield, CA

The 2010 MPMC Media Trade Conference has moved to a brand new location, the recently renovated Radisson Suites Hotel in Covina, CA. Now in its ninth year, the Motorsports Parts Manufacturers Council (MPMC) has created a premiere event which enables its member companies to orchestrate three days of face-to-face meetings with members of the media, both print and electronic. MPMC is a subset of the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) whose annual car show in Vegas each November becomes a Mecca for performance and car enthusiasts worldwide. The SEMA Show, because of its enormous size, is not the ideal forum for editors and journalists to get suitable face time with companies. For this reason MPMC was created to set aside a quieter space in time for making more intimate, undistracted presentations. Over a period of three days companies can have as many as forty meetings, not to mention the after hours opportunities for conducting additional business with one another. One of the aims of the MPMC has been to raise public awareness for motorsports. Followers of AMSOIL INC. are well aware of the long time friendships we have forged within the various racing communities at all levels from the grass roots on up. (Recommended reading: the AMSOIL Racing Blog.)As in years past AMSOIL representatives Ed Newman, director of advertising, and Karl Dedolph, director of aftermarket products, have enjoyed the privilege of being able to share the AMSOIL Story, new products and information resources for future technical articles that the media use to educate their readers and viewers. With its long history in synthetic lubrication, and as developer of the world's first synthetic motor oil to meet American Petroleum Institute certification standards, the company has decades of experience and welcomes opportunites like this to educate both consumers and the industry. Wednesday evening the MPMC hosted a Performance Aftermarket Seminar at the NHRA Motorsports Museum at the Pomona Fairplex. The stroll back in time to the early years of rodding and motorsports history brought back many memories for all of us. The event included a panel discussion with industry leaders addressing contemporary issues. The nostalgic environment and optimistic observations by the panel left many feeling renewed confidence as we enter the new year.

Category: Laconia Bike Week
Good things come in threes, and this month AMSOIL became the Exclusive Official Oil of the Laconia Bike Week after inking similar arrangements with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and Daytona Bike Week. Laconia is not only North America's third largest motorcycle rally, behind Sturgis and Daytona, it is also the oldest, a respected rally point for bikers every summer now celebrating its 86th year. The 2010 Laconia Bike Week in New Hampshire will be held this year from June 12-20. The origins of the Laconia Bike Week go back to a 1916 gathering of 300-400 motorcyclists who spent several days at Weirs Beach in Laconia enjoying the sights of Lake Winnipesauke and the White Mountains unofficialliy starting the first year of Laconia Motorcycle Week. Motorcyclists had been gathering at the Weirs for a number of years and in 1917 the first sanctioned Gypsy Tour was held in Laconia at Weirs Beach. Hill Climbs were held on Tower Hill Street while other races took place anywhere they could. Laconia has today established its popularity and place in the world of motorcycles. 1997 saw 225,000 motorcyclists attend Motorcycle Week. The 75th Anniversary of this oldest Motorcycle Rally in North America saw upwards of 330,000 people during the ten-day event. In 2004 rally attendance exceeded 400,000, generating an estimated 250 million dollars in revenue for the State of New Hampshire. For AMSOIL these three leading bike rallies bring exposure to nearly 1.5 million motorcyclists a year, a significant share of the 7+ million registered motorcyclists in the American biker scene, according to U.S. Department of Transportation figures. Check out our Motorcycle Oil Report to see why more and more bikers are choosing AMSOIL.

AMSOIL knows today's drivers are focused on vehicle maintenance more than ever before. This includes scheduled oil changes and regular service, which can be difficult to keep track of in your busy life. This past fall AMSOIL introduced a user-friendly feature called MyAMSOILGarage™ to help to change that. Vehicle maintenance can be monitored and scheduled through one easy-to-use source here on the AMSOIL website. By safely storing vehicle information in a virtual ‘garage’, you can eliminate the need to enter the year, make, model and engine size each time you need product recommendations or capacities. You can also schedule oil change reminder e-mails, keep a vehicle maintenance log, and view recommended AMSOIL lubricants and filters for your specific vehicle all in one central location. These significant improvements to the standard AMSOIL Automotive & Light Truck Lookup save you time, effort and money. Let AMSOIL maintain these records in the MyAMSOILGarage™ feature so you don’t have to. We’re hoping you’ll park your vehicles here, too, along with the thousands of other motorists we're taking care of. For more information go to MyAMSOILGarage™.Sometimes, the best things in life really are free.

Category: Detroit Auto Show
It’s the beginning of the New Year, and car companies are pulling out all the stops to show the world their new and innovative concepts. The 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit is a premier event for creating buzz and AMSOIL Director of Aftermarket Products Karl Dedolph has been present to keep an eye out for upcoming and developing trends in the industry. All eyes are on Ford, General Motors and Chrysler this year, but they aren’t the only companies capitalizing on the slowly stabilizing economy. Honda, Toyota, Audi and BMW are also aiming to garner consumer attention with hybrid, electric and luxury vehicles that appeal to all ends of the consumer spectrum. With the onset of ‘going green’ in today’s market, most car manufacturers are trying to keep ahead of the curve to incorporate this theory into their design and production. Have we finally reached the advent of the electric car era? Roger Huntington addressed the demise of the internal combustion engine in a 1969 Popular Mechanics story titled "How Far Can We Go With The Piston Engine?" The article begins like this. "An early death for the age-old internal combustion piston engine is the prediction of some people. They say the exhaust can't be cleaned up enough to meet future air-pollution and antismog laws and that we'll be running around with batteries, steam, fuel cells and atomic engines in another ten years." Forty years later and the NAIAS gives evidence that many very smart people have spent a lot of time and money to move the auto industry in a greener direction. The degree of cleanliness in modern diesel technologies was inconceivable in 1969. But the range of alternative solutions to the internal combustion engine is also highly in evidence this week. The outcome of all this will be anyone’s guess. This year’s NAIAS features a special section called Electric Avenue where companies large and small have electric model vehicles available for test drives around a ¼ mile indoor track. At the turn of the last century (1900) electric cars were quieter, cleaner, and offered a much more pleasant motoring experience than the alternatives. And they could run at a pretty decent clip as well. The 1899 Belgian-built La Jamais Contente was clocked at 100 km/hour (68 miles per hour), setting a world land speed record. Its gas powered counterpart was a hand-cranked contraption that smelled, vibrated a lot and made a lot of noise. La Jamais Contente, pictured here on the left, is on display in Detroit this week. Open to the public from January 16-24 and unlike any car show you’ve ever been to, we encourage you to try and make it out to see what’s headed your way in the auto industry. AMSOIL will continue to watch these trends as they are developed and tested, utilizing shows like this one to stay ahead of the game in today’s rapidly evolving marketplace.

Despite a tough couple years in Detroit, the auto industry remains committed to the future. And the best way to see where that future is headed is by seeing the cars on display at our premiere auto shows. 2010 kicked off with the 10 th annual San Diego International Auto Show from December 30 to January 3 featuring hundreds of new models, concept cars, exotics, trucks, vans and alternative fuel vehicles. The last category here is ever expanding as automakers strive to quench the thirst for greener vehicle options. The theme of this year's show was "Where the Cars ARE the Stars!” The show included a tribute to the Model T and an overview of the history of the auto industry, courtesy the La Jolla Motor Car Classic, beginning with a 1904 DeDion- Bouton and ending in the muscle car era. It's the kind of exhibit that gives a context to what the automobile is all about, incorporating nostalgia from the early years to the mid-sixties. But the primary focus of American auto shows is a forward look, to make us dream. And one car that made us dreamy was Mike Yonemitsu's 2010 BOMEX Silver Arrow WidebodyCamaro. We liked it here, of course, because Mike has taken special care to ensure this baby purrs by nourishing it tip to toe with AMSOIL fluids and lubricants. Many opportunities existed for test drives and there were even some giveaways. The Eco-Center showcased the latest fuel-saving and environmentally friendly technologies. And the mood remained celebratory throughout. If you've never been to one of these kinds of shows, it's worth your while to check one out. They are open to the public and designed to make you smile. Next week, Detroit's putting on the dog. And later this spring the Big Apple will once more polish some chrome for the home team. Stay tuned for coming attractions.

The end of another year is upon us, a time of reflection for many. Below is a recap of some events that helped us end the year on a positive note as we embark on the year ahead of us. Early in the year, AMSOIL staff attended the MPMC Media Trade Conference in Los Angeles. This 3-day event draws manufacturers from all across the world to meet face to face with editors and media reps to help increase media understanding and exposure. The SEMA-sponsored event provides an arena for presentations of new products and sharing the AMSOIL story. AMSOIL completed its third year as a sponsor of the National Street Rodder Association and has agreed to continue this relationship with North America’s grass roots classic car enthusiasts. Despite the tough economy America’s passion for antique and vintage cars continues unabated. AMSOIL locked hands with Hot Rod magazine during Hot Rod Drag Week in September. AMSOIL was there to help crown "Hot Rod’s Fastest Street Car in America" in Muncie, Indiana. The 2009 AMSOIL Street Rodder Road Tour wrapped up yet another set of eight successful cross-country tours including a stop once more here in Superior, Wisconsin, for what appears will become an annual event in itself. Street rodders across the Northland were here to meet and greet Road Tour captain Jerry Dixey and his band. Big thank you to Street Rodder magazine for steering in our direction. For a third year AMSOIL provided sponsorship support for The Diesel Power Challenge and Top Truck Challenge. These events put vehicles and drivers through some pretty grueling paces. With staff on hand, AMSOIL helped crown champions in each. But just getting through these events in one piece is an achievement and every one of these teams proved worthy of honors. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and Daytona Bike Week each hailed AMSOIL as the Official Oil for the second year, which solidified the company’s reputation among bikers. Both of these events draw hundreds of thousands of spectators and AMSOIL was on hand to help their engines hold up under the heat and long hours of riding. AMSOIL also completed its third year of involvement in the AMSOILMopar Muscle Challenge. At PRI in December we not announced a continuation of this relationship but also announced the sponsorship of the 2010 AMSOIL Engine Masters Challenge that will be kicking off next fall.
Much more can be written here, about cars we’ve had the privilege of lubricating and the many talented builders and craftsmen we’ve gotten to know this past year. Thanks to all -- builders, riders, event organizers and friends -- for another great year. We look forward sharing even greater success with you in 2010.

Earlier this month at the PRI Show in Orlando, Mopar Muscle Magazine announced that AMSOIL has officially joined Mopar Muscle Magazine for 2010 through 2012 as title spnsors of the AMSOIL/Mopar Muscle Engine Challenge. 2010 will be the fourth year as such, and some changes in scoring will keep things fresh and interesting. Details on the 2010 competition are as follows: eight builders, selected from engine shops across the country, will bring their talents to the table in an effort to build the best small block engine in terms of performance and horsepower. In 2010 there will be no cubic inch limit, each participant using RHS Heads’ new cast iron cylinder head, and of course AMSOIL will be the lubricant. One difference from last year’s challenge is that cost of parts will not be included in the final scoring. Instead this year’s scoring will be done by factoring the horsepower per cubic inches of each engine, making for some interesting results. More details will be posted here as they become available, as well as in Mopar Muscle Magazine, so stay tuned. In addition, Mopar Muscle Magazine officially announced the winners of the 2009 competition. Schurbon Engine and Machine teamed up with Mo-Par City to build an engine that proved both economical and powerful with near 600 horsepower to take home the win. AMSOIL extends sincere congratulations to Scott Schurbon and team for taking the title. Following that release it was also announced that AMSOIL has officially joined Mopar Muscle Magazine for the 2010 AMSOIL/Mopar Muscle Engine Challenge as title sponsor. 2010 will be the fourth year as such, and some changes in scoring will keep things fresh and interesting. Details on the challenge are as follows:

Since its inception in 1972 AMSOIL has been known as the leader in synthetic lubricant technology. As such, we are always on the lookout for opportunities to prove to the masses that we deserve such a title. That’s one reason AMSOIL has officially joined Popular Hot Rodding Magazine’s annual ‘Engine Masters Challenge’ for the 2010 competition as title sponsor. (The other is getting alongside some of the most talented engine builders in North America to see what they are capable of.) This year’s theme is ‘Taking It to the Streets’ and AMSOIL is poised to do just that. The 2010 AMSOIL Engine Masters Challenge ( EMC) Presented by Popular Hot Rodding is gearing up to announce some exciting new changes in this year’s event, and the final groundwork is being laid out at this week’s PRI show in Orlando. Similar to the Mopar Muscle Engine Challenge that AMSOIL also sponsors, the EMC pits over 30 competitors against one another to see who can build the most powerful engine. In a series of tests designed to measure torque, power, and performance only one will come out on top as the leader in engine building innovation. AMSOIL will be installed in each and every engine to ensure that any mechanical breakdowns will not be due to the lubricants that keep the engine humming. While past events have had stiff competition with as many as 28 of 29 engines completing without failure, this challenge is no easy feat and anything can happen. The stakes are a little higher this year with AMSOIL offering the winning team $3,000 cash along with $2,000 in AMSOIL products. More details will be forthcoming here in the AMSOIL Events Blog, as well as the February issue of Popular Hot Rodding Magazine on news stands December 22 nd.

As it turns out, the PRI Show management has taken great pains to keep cameras off the show floor this year. This is not an uncommon practice at major trade shows. Their aim, in part, is to help deter companies from stealing ideas from their competition. Nevertheless our intrepid man on the scene did capture a few AMSOIL logos along with the latest scuttlebutt. Word from several sources is that AMSOIL is creating quite a bit o' buzz in Orlando this week. Terry Rinker and his powerboat racing crew were again located in one of the AMSOIL booths in a great location. The canary yellow boat really draws people like flies to molasses, though it could be Terry's charm. AMSOIL is proud to be associated with this veteran champion. There seemed to be plenty of Off Road Racing chatter as well here this week as The Off Road Championship ( TORC) Series enters its second year. Take a close look at this vehicle here because these 800-horse off road trucks don't stay shiny like this very long i n the bump and grind world of off-road short track racing. In other news, AMSOIL Racing Manager Jeremy Meyer met with staff from Circle Track magazine to launch the AMSOIL Great American CIRCLE TRACK Tour. Senior tech Editor Bob Bolles will be criss-crossing the United States to interact with racing teams, drivers and fans to promote grass roots racing, discuss current trends in racing technology and build sponsor awareness among the hard-core racing community. You can read the details in the months ahead at the AMSOIL Racing Blog. And there's more to come!

Back in November we mentioned Race Safro of RT Rods, the 16 year old who was headed to SEMA to unveil a custom-built Factory Five ’33 Hot Rod. After many hours of dedicated work and enthusiasm for the job, he successfully completed the build in time and showed how great his talent truly is. When it came time to hand the keys off to the proud new owner, SEMA attendees and the media definitely took notice. From a write-up in the New York Times to numerous mentions throughout SEMA-related press, Race is getting some pretty good exposure in the early phases of his career. Race is high school student with amazing ability and is the primary force responsible for the impressive end results. As the owner of his own business, RT Rods, he was recently given full permission from the owner of a ’66 Pontiac Lemans to incorporate his talent into the restoration of this classic car. His father Jeff runs a custom upholstery business and occasionally assists Race in his builds, but it is Race himself who creates the vision and takes it from start to finish. AMSOIL looks forward to supporting him in future endeavors and watching his ascent to the top in the world of custom car building.

In the early years of the tuner movement, the spotlight was mainly on style and the scene. Import tuners began making appearances that had been heavily modified from their factory built starting point. Enthusiasts spent thousands in modifications, tweaking their rides to create their vision with no end result entirely like another. Today, the tuner scene has evolved and while appearance is as imperative as always, nowadays performance is even more vital. Speed, handling and power modifications are changing the standard for performance driven rides. Car manufacturers are paying attention, and with the engine being the heartbeat of every tuner, so is AMSOIL. A new form of proving grounds is taking over the scene with Time Attack events, which puts these rides to the test with timed trial runs. Firefighter Matt Dennison found his calling in the tuner scene the first time he got behind the wheel of a friend’s heavily modified VW Jetta. After his very first run Matt made the decision to buy his own ride, a 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution IX in apex silver, and began making the necessary modifications for ultimate performance. He moved to California and soon climbed the ranks among the best in his class. Southern California is the ultimate destination for any tuner enthusiast, and local tracks are in abundance. It is here that Matt found his niche, and recently took 1st place in his class at the Redline Time Attack West Coast Series. With a well-modified tuner and a need for the best performance from his engine, Matt approached AMSOIL with a request for sponsorship.
The sky is the limit for how far these car builders will go to create the ultimate street car, and more and more are turning to AMSOIL to give them that extra edge. In a world where these rides mean everything, these builders use only the best products and modifications. Steadily growing as the next generation of muscle cars, the tuner revolution doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.

Back in September AMSOIL announced its sponsorship of the 2009 Hot Rod Drag Week which was kicking off in Muncie, Indiana. As usual, this year’s challenge proved to be full of excitement with a few mishaps along the way. From failed torque converters to blown transmissions, participant had their plates full with trying to keep their cars up to par during the challenge. For those who couldn’t, there was almost always a fellow competitor willing to lend a hand and get them back on the road. Bragging rights for the Fastest Street Car in America went to Larry Larson in his ’67 Chevy II in the Unlimited class. Despite a lifter breakdown in the middle of a cornfield, Larson and engine builder Mike Moran ran the best time with an average E.T. of 7.25 and a speed of 204 MPH. For the second year in a row, Larry’s Chevy II beat out some of the best in the country. Below is an overview of the major class winners. Quickest Four-Cylinder: Jon Huber in his ’79 Ford Mustang is referred to as ‘The little Ford that could…and does.” Jon dealt with a failed torque converter early in the competition, but a group of racers helped him roadside to get him back on his way. His final timeslip turned out an average of 9.37 at 147 MPH for the class win. Big-Block Naturally Aspirated: Steve and Gary Satterlee’s ’90 Ford Mustang had a 632ci Chevy engine installed, giving it the power it needed to take the title in this class. They built the car in 90 days with only the motor to start with, giving them their final average at 10.15.
Diesel Class: In a ’94 Ford Mustang with Duramax diesel installed, Mike Wood beat out some heavy trucks also competing in this class. With an average E.T. of 10.08 and 147 MPH, this ride also got 38 MPG. Now that is impressive. Quickest Mopar: Michael Crow is known for exceptional sportsmanship, taking last years’ Spirit of Drag Week award. This year in his’73 Plymouth Cuda, his average E.T. of 10.38 at 131 MPH earned him the title of Quickest Mopar. Big Block Power-Adder: A favorite among the crew, Mike Thompson and his ’68 Chevy Caprice took an average of 9.64 at 141 MPH in a car that had never made a pass before Drag Week.
Modified Naturally Aspirated: Jay Brown and his ’64 Ford Galaxie fought a good battle with the very close second place winner this year. Jay competed in 2008, and his car has been in feature stories. His average E.T. was 9.52, with second place right behind him at 9.58. A close call, but this modified ride ultimately had what it took.
Modified Power-Adder: Rick “Doc” Fox really is a Doctor, and drives his ’67 Corvette every day in his commute to the office. No stranger to Drag Week, this year Rick took the class win with an average E.T. of 9.02 and 149 MPH.
Pro-Street Naturally Aspirated: With another close call in his class running within a tenth of the second place driver, Curt Johnson and his ’94 Chevy S-10 truck took first place with an average E.T. of 9.13.
Pro-Street Power-Adder: Michael Roy and his ’71 Chevy Monte Carlo is no stranger to Drag Week, this year convincing his friends to join in with their cars. With an average of 8.65, this was Mike’s first class win at Drag Week and his friends were there to witness it.
Daily Driver & Spirit of Drag Week: Geoff Dugopolski in his ’78 Chevy Malibu not only won the Daily Driver bracket race, but the respect of his peers with the Spirit of Drag Week award. This award is given to the person that best exemplifies what it means to help others competing in the event. He helped more than a few of his competitors get back on track, while still ending with an average E.T. of 12.32.
Overall every participant showed a fierce drive and willingness to not only win, but help out their fellow drivers. As the official lubricant of this event, AMSOIL is proud to have played a part in each of their successes. The January issue of Hot Rod has an impressive spread covering this event, so be sure to pick one up and see for yourself why Drag Week is growing and shows no signs of stopping. Below: David Paschall received recognition by tying for the Mickey Thompson Quickest Reaction Time as well as the Quickest Buick and Quickest E.T., Daily Driver

Sean Baisden's 2008 Chevy 2500HD Duramax was a featured vehicle for ANSA Exhaust at last week’s SEMA Show. Blaisden, who goes by the nickname Pitbull, described his build this way. We started with a 2008 Chevy 2500HD Duramax Diesel, crew cab long bed 4X4, sandstone in color. The project got some height by lifting the truck 11 inches using a CST lift kit with Fox Shocks w/ res. and a Performance Accessory 3-inch Body Lift. The suspension kit along with the Gear Alloy 715c 22-inch wheels, custom Pitbull Motor Toyz traction bars and skid plate, and Hellwig front and rear sway bars were powder coated candy red. The rims were fitted with a set of 40X15.5X22 Toyo Open Country MTs.This was only the beginning. We then took the truck over to the Upholstery Zone in Simi Vally Ca.where Ramon, the owner, took charge of transforming the interior by removing the seats and covering the centers in wine colored suede. Then the door panels, pillars, headliner and dash were removed and covered in black leather, wine and charcoal gray suede. The interior was finished off with a brushed stainless US Speedo, Pioneer D3 head unit and Rockford Fosgate sound systems with 5 amps and 16 speakers that have all been custom mounted in the door panels, behind and under the rear seats.
Once the inside was done we had to put some splash on the outside. So we sent the truck off to Jerks Design in Thousand Oaks, CA where we removed 40 pieces out of the interior, sanded them smooth and painted them the color for the truck and reinstalled them. Next it was the outside. We painted the new Ansani Design front bumper and installed the three 8-inch KC lights and wired them into the high beams. Next we sanded the mirrors smooth and painted them gloss black. Then we had some custom gun metal gray tribal flames that were highlighted with candy red and silver pinstriping to tie it all together. Finished those off with silver pearl ghost flames over top. To complete the outside we installed a set of Amp Research power steps, GM chrome handles and Precision Billet black grill. After all that, the truck was off to Line-X were the bed, bed rails and toolbox was sprayed.
Now it was time for some performance so back to the shop where the truck was outfitted with a pair of Optima Batteries, AMSOIL Synthetic Diesel Oil,AMSOIL Synthetic Fuel Efficient Automatic Transmission Fluidand Severe Gear Gear Lube and a new set of billet reusable Pure Power Inc. oil, trans, and fuel filters. Next the Injen Technology intake system (with AMSOIL Ea filter), PPE Hot +4 programmer, FASS fuel filter/air separator system and 4inch ANSA Silverline turbo back exhaust system with their new twin 8-inch black chrome stacks were installed through the bed of the truck.
To finish the truck off we installed a pair of 16-inch Spal fans on a custom Pitbull Motor Toyz fan shroud assembly and a Custom polished aluminum 35 gallon Propane Tank located under the bed to feed the digital propane system, thereby giving the truck another 75hp and 150tq. This truck was cruising, doing 90mph and getting 28mpg.
Baisden admits the project was a lot of work, “but it all paid off. It is a head turner and always gets attention no matter where we are.” Baisden was eager to thank all his sponsors, including AMSOIL. "We could not have done it without them!"

A major event like SEMA attracts media from all over the world. Historically the show has been a rich resource of story ideas for journalists and editors. In more recent years, with the advent of the Internet, we see increasing numbers of camera crews shooting footage for streaming video and other forms of distribution. Radio programs set up shop here as well. In short, it's a car lover's extravaganza and a media feast. Throw a few celebrities into the mix (Jay Leno created some buzz with his Twin-Turbo Camaro) and you have the kind of chemistry that makes this a one of a kind event. Speaking of Camaros, this year's show has featured more Camaros than ever, a car that brings panache and style back to the once fabled muscle machine. Some of the design schemes for the Camaro today were voted on via Facebook, something that you didn't see forty years ago.
Not to be outdone, Ford unveiled a Cobra Jet Mustang which was.... hot. And you can see no diminishing of passion for cars in the Ford booth. The old street rod and hot rod lovers will find what they are looking for here, too, but the import performance cars are increasingly dominant and highly visible throughout the show. Many of these cars are being photographed for future magazine and blog exposure, so stay tuned to your favorite sources of enthusiast information.

All of yesterday's forklifts, empty crates and debris has magically disappeared. The red carpets have been rolled out. And SEMA 2009 is underway. A few things have changed and some remain the same. One change is the location of the New Product Showcase, which used to be in the area between the North and Central Halls. It is now on the second floor of the South Hall. Registration has also moved to this location, and the lines were long for those who had not taken care of these details in advance. The show itself fills an enormous space, as you can see here from these shots in but one of the four show halls.
It's too early to say what the big story of the show will be. Here at AMSOIL the story remains constant, new products of outstanding quality for specific applications. We're thrilled to be part of the spectacle that is SEMA.

When the opening bell rings for SEMA 2009 Tuesday morning, the chaos of the last days before a major show like SEMA will be utterly forgotten. All the scurrying to get vehicles in place, to make sure all is polished and preened, to get carpets laid, displays identified, will be forgotten as quickly as a tissue of dream. Instead, the vast orderliness of a massive spectacle will be all laid out in jewel bedecked wonderment. The weather is nothing short of perfection with a brilliant sun illuminating the gleaming spectacle of cars and colors and chrome laid out on the apron in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The New Product Showcase remained concealed while judges selected winners in the numerous categories. A new Powersports section has been ushered in for the first time. And a whole host of new companies have come for the first time to share wares as diverse as composites and motorcycles, web services and global tracking. The show's dimensions remain immense while advances in technology in every imaginable facet of the industry has made an imprint. The media, as usual, is out in force, but nowadays automotive journalists are posting their observations online as they happen. In short, the Internet is very much a presence here, a desert space once remote as nowhere. The images here hardly tell the story, but give a glimpse that something's happening here. Stay tuned.

Category: AMSOIL Mopar Muscle Challenge
Last month 8 talented teams of engine builders from across the country descended upon Comp Cams test facility in Memphis to determine which engine was best designed for performance and cost. Last week Mopar Muscle magazine posted the final standings of the AMSOIL/Mopar Muscle Engine Challenge on their website. As title sponsor for this event AMSOIL was in every engine lending a hand in improving power and performance. Over the course of three days the engines were put through rigorous testing and given an overall rating based on peak horsepower and torque. In the final analysis, the retail cost of parts were tallied and factored into the final score which ultimately determined the winning engine. This year Schurbon Engine and Machine teamed up with Mopar City to build an impressively powerful, economical stroker big block and earned the first place spot. Nearly 600 horsepower was created by using stock crank and rods, flat-tappet camshaft and cast pistons to create the winning formula. Second place went to Chenowith Speed and Machine with their highest combined horsepower and torque score, with LaRoy engines coming in at a very close third. Final results:
1. Schurbon Engine and Machine/ Mopar City 2. Chenowith Speed and Machine 3. LaRoy Engines 4. ProMax Performance 5. Mid America Racing Engines 6. J D Engine and Machine 7. RM Competition Congratulations to all participants this year, AMSOIL is already looking forward to seeing next year’s innovations in engine building.

Lexus has on display a bright orange twin turbo IS-F at the Miami International Auto Show till next Sunday, the handiwork of Brian Fox, Fox Marketing. Definitely, the car is a hit for Lexus, attracting plenty of attention to the brand, and the model line. It's an impeccable build, and even that which you can’t see is superb, including AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil and drivetrain fluids. Fox explained why he likes this car. "I love the power; it's a fast car. You're talking 625 horsepower. And I also like that I don't have to change my oil all the time." Amongst the other Lexus vehicles on display it stands out as cream of the crop, front and center.

Back in June AMSOIL sponsored the 2009 Top Truck Challenge in Hollister, CA. To recap, the readers of Four Wheeler Magazine select ten rigs to compete against another in a series of extreme challenges over the course of three days. This year's bragging rights went to Team Green driver David Green and co-driver Nick Souchuk out of Red Deer, Alberta. They just managed to beat out Team Jerome in the final event, coined the Tank Trap, in which they had no other option but to perform well to keep their lead. To give you an idea of the magnitude of this challenge, below the competitors give some choice quotes on what was a grueling, near-impossible, excitement-filled ordeal not soon to be forgotten. The Tow Test: ‘We crossed the line didn’t we? I mean the starting line.” ~Fred Williams The Frame Twister: “ Never seen anything like it other than on the tape… to see it and to live it are two different things.” ~Scott Sidwell The Mud Pit:“You’d need 1,100 horsepower and paddles to make it through this.” ~Kevin StearnsThe Obstacle Course: “That had to be one of the toughest things I’ve ever done in this thing.” ~Scott Sidwell “ I wanna go home.” ~Fred Williams The Hillclimb: “That was a nasty, nasty hill.” ~David Green The Mini Rubicon: “When we walked through it I was thinking, holy cow, whoever built this was in a bad mood.” ~Tracy Graf The Tank Trap: “The obstacles come at you so fast, boom, boom, boom, as soon as you’re done with one there’s another one there right in your way.” ~Doug Kahlstrom
For a full recap complete with pics, more quotes, and all the nitty-gritty details pick up a copy of December’s Four Wheeler Magazine. Ken Brubaker does an excellent job of portraying the entire three day adventure, and the photos show how it can take down the toughest of trucks in a matter of seconds. With the world’s largest performance auto show just two weeks away, here’s another preview of AMSOIL products appearing in the 2009 SEMA Show New Product Showcase. It just keeps getting better and better. AMSOIL Diesel Recovery Emergency Fuel TreatmentIntroduced in January, AMSOIL Diesel Recovery is a product every Northern tier diesel owner should have on hand throughout the winter. This fuel additive is cheap insurance and provides peace of mind in the event of gelled diesel fuel and/or frozen fuel filters while getting diesel owners back on the road quickly.
