D.I.Y. "One Man" Brake Fluid Change/ Flush
« on: June 28, 2009, 03:06:46 AM »
There are several things needed when working on your truck in the heat!

I picked up a cheap bulb pump and drained all the old brake fluid in the reservoir out. I used a keeper  pin to keep the hose from flopping out of the drain pan.

Next: just pour inthe new brake fluid to the MAX line. and replace the cap on the Reservior.

You will start at the Right Rear, Left Rear, Right Front, and finish at the Left Front.
Remember to keep an eye on your fluid level not letting it go dry.
I then connected a one man Bleeder Kit. AutoZone for like $6.99

You will have to plce the bleeder bottle at a point abover the bleeder screw, mine had a magnet.

Next insert the tapered adapter into the bleeding screw hole.
Open Bleeder Screw 3/4 to 1 turn

Now press the brake pedal fully three to four times (I only did 3 since 4 would over fill the bottle and leak out)

you will see the dirty brake fluid clear after about 5 to 6 cycles.
LOVING EVERY minute of it!

Mojo, nice job- glad to see you got it done (we told you it wasn't that hard....lol).  One question though, from what I can tell from the picture, is that just a nipple that "sticks" into the hole of the bleeder screw, or does it go over the whole end? It looks like it just kind of sticks into the hole in the end and was wondering how it stayed in there??

its just a cone shape plastic piece and it just stick in. It's not supposed to let any air get around it and I've only got a little vibration when I use my brakes and turn hard. But I think thats P/S.

So roughly how many bottles does it take to do a complete flush?

I would have at least 2 bottles on hand, I have 3 ready for mine now.  If I have to much, so be it, I have some for top offs later.

Sorry for the late response.
